01 | The Challenge

Two mates, two continents
zero excuses - all for a cause

Long-time friends and avid motorbike enthusiasts Guy Hopkins and Gerald Chapman are embarking on the journey of a lifetime—not for glory, but for a cause close to their hearts.

They have committed to a gruelling ride from the Castle in Cape Town, South Africa to Buckingham Place, London UK, on two adventure motorbikes, with every turn of the wheel in support of the Gammie on the Go Foundation, driven by a heartfelt mission to raise funds and provide the life-changing gift of mobility to children in South Africa who need it most.

Their awe-inspiring route will span roughly 60 something days of relentless riding, navigating the diverse and challenging terrains of Namibia, Angola, the DRC, Congo, Cameroon, Nigeria, Benin, Togo, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Guinea-Conakry, Senegal, Mauritania, Western Sahara and Morocco. After crossing into Europe they’ll push through Spain, Portugal and France, before finally pulling up to Buckingham Palace in London for a profoundly earned pint.

While they have an undeniable thirst for adventure, Guy and Gerald aren't professional riders. They are just regular guys who are fiercely passionate about making a tangible difference in the world. They are pressing pause on their everyday lives to make a genuine, personal commitment to a cause far bigger than themselves.

A dedicated content team back in South Africa will be tracking the expedition closely, capturing the raw reality of the expedition. From inspiring breakthroughs to crushing setbacks, they will document the grit it takes to face this challenge head-on, bringing you along for every single kilometre conquered—or survived.

02 | The Cause

The Gammie on the Go Foundation was founded by Sean Clark, an amputee who knows first-hand what it means to navigate the world without full mobility.

After years of living with the consequences of an accident which resulted in his left foot being paralysed, Sean made the decision to amputate his leg and channelled that experience into something purposeful. The foundation exists to bring mobility aid to South African children who need it but cannot access it.

Sean describes the foundation as a small fish in a big ocean. It is not a large NGO with corporate backing and a full-time team. It is a passion project run after hours, funded through personal effort and community generosity. That honesty is part of what makes it compelling.

The foundation operates across two approaches. The first is long-term support for individual children, funding their mobility needs over years as they grow. The second is broader outreach, supplying schools and clinics with crutches, walkers, reverse walkers, and wheelchairs for children who need them immediately.

03 | The Riders

Guy Hopkins

Anyone who knows Guy, knows he lives life at full throttle. With a larger-than-life personality, he lives by his motto: “We’re not here for a long time, we’re here for a good time”. His optimism is contagious, his determination relentless, and his ability to push others beyond their comfort zones is remarkable.

Whether he's pursuing personal growth, creating unforgettable shared experiences or raising funds to support those less fortunate, Guy throws himself wholeheartedly into every challenge. He doesn't simply dream about extraordinary adventures—he makes them happen, and in doing so, encourages others to believe that they can too.

After recently facing and overcoming his battle with cancer with the same positive attitude, determination and resilience, Guy emerged with an even greater appreciation for every moment and an even stronger desire to live life to its fullest. For him, slowing down has never been an option. Instead, he has chosen to kick things into the next gear, embracing bigger challenges, greater adventures and experiences that most people would consider impossible.

This epic motorcycle journey has been a dream firmly planted on Guy's bucket list for years and, true to form, he has somehow convinced his good friend Gerald to join him on the ride of a lifetime.

Gerald Chapman

(aka Chappies)

Always up for a good time and a laugh, Gerald is the ultimate companion for this wild expedition. As a fellow adventure bike enthusiast, skilled rider and all-around great guy, he’ll be the provider of both common sense and comic relief when the going gets tough—which is inevitable!

Also known as Mr. Organized, Chappies is a perfectionist who thrives on keeping his environment meticulously clean and tidy. Methodical and sensible, he sets a steady pace, embodying the mantra of “calm throttle, clean finish.” With a plan, a contact or a solution for every crisis, Chappies is simply the ideal adventure partner. And as an added bonus his endless, animated storytelling around the campfire never fails to entertain.

United by a passion for giving back and a thirst for adventure, Guy and Chappies have tackled gruelling biking journeys through Botswana, Namibia and much of Southern Africa. Fuelled by blood, sweat, tears and an unwavering "never say die" spirit, this duo is a force to be reckoned with.

PUSHING THE LIMITS FOR A CAUSE

Different in many ways but united by friendship, adventure and a desire to make a difference, Guy and Chappies are taking on the journey of a lifetime. Together they will tackle thousands of kilometres of mud, gravel, rain and rugged terrain, pushing both themselves and their machines to the absolute limit.

But this journey is about far more than the destination. It is about resilience, courage and proving that no obstacle is too great when faced with determination and a positive spirit.Years of camaraderie and shared experiences will be put to the test as they embark on this epic adventure, relying solely on each other for companionship and support—all to help children in South Africa awaiting a wheelchair, a walker or a pair of crutches.
